Borneo Engineering: Jurnal Teknik Sipil (BEJTS) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal follows the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies ethical standards to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.
BEJTS does not tolerate fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, manipulation of the peer-review process, or other forms of academic and publication misconduct.
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
-
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of the research conducted and provide an objective discussion of its significance. Research findings must be reported honestly and must not involve fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of data. Manuscripts should contain sufficient methodological details and appropriate references to allow the research to be understood and, where applicable, reproduced. -
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their submitted work is original and has not been plagiarized. All sources, ideas, data, and statements derived from the work of others must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Direct quotations must be clearly identified and properly referenced. Manuscripts containing plagiarism or substantial unattributed overlap may be rejected or subject to further action in accordance with the journal's policies. -
Multiple, Redundant, and Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Authors should not publish substantially the same research in multiple publications. When multiple publications arise from the same research project, the relationship between the publications must be clearly disclosed and relevant previous publications must be appropriately cited. -
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must properly acknowledge all sources of information, data, materials, and ideas that contributed to the research. Publications that have significantly influenced the research must be appropriately cited, including relevant work by the authors themselves. -
Authorship and Contributions
Authorship must accurately reflect substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the research and the preparation of the manuscript. All individuals who meet the criteria for authorship should be included as authors, while individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission and publication. -
Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation. All sources of financial support for the research must also be disclosed. -
Research Data and Reproducibility
Authors should retain appropriate research data and supporting materials and, where possible and ethically permissible, make relevant data available to support the verification or reproducibility of the research. Any restrictions on data availability should be clearly stated. -
Ethical Conduct and Research Involving Humans or Animals
Research involving human participants, personal data, or animals must comply with applicable ethical standards and regulations. Where required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board and provide relevant ethical approval information in the manuscript. Informed consent must be obtained where applicable. -
Hazardous Materials and Procedures
Authors must clearly identify any chemicals, procedures, equipment, field activities, or other materials that may present unusual hazards and must ensure that appropriate safety procedures have been followed. -
Errors in Published Work
If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their submitted or published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting the record. Authors should provide appropriate information and evidence to facilitate the correction, retraction, or other necessary editorial action.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
-
Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for making fair, objective, and evidence-based decisions regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts. Decisions should be based primarily on the manuscript's scientific quality, originality, relevance, and contribution to the field, while complying with the journal's policies and applicable legal requirements. -
Fair and Appropriate Peer Review
Editors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are evaluated appropriately and that the peer-review process is conducted fairly, objectively, and transparently. Reviewers should be selected based on their expertise and suitability for the manuscript, while avoiding individuals with potential conflicts of interest. -
Fair Play and Editorial Independence
Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic and scientific merit and must not discriminate against authors on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, political views, or other irrelevant characteristics. Editorial decisions must remain independent and unbiased. -
Confidentiality
Editors must keep all information concerning submitted manuscripts confidential and must not disclose manuscript content or author information to unauthorized persons. Unpublished materials contained in submitted manuscripts must not be used for the editor's own research without the author's written permission. -
Conflicts of Interest
Editors must not participate in editorial decisions involving manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. When necessary, the manuscript should be handled by another qualified editor. -
Handling Misconduct
Editors must take appropriate and reasonable action when allegations of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, authorship misconduct, peer-review manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct are raised. Investigations should be conducted fairly and confidentially in accordance with COPE principles and the journal's policies. -
Corrections and Retractions
Editors must take appropriate action to correct the published record when significant errors are identified. Where necessary, articles may be corrected, retracted, or subject to other post-publication notices in accordance with established editorial procedures. -
Complaints and Appeals
Editors should provide a fair mechanism for authors and other stakeholders to submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions or publication processes. Complaints and appeals should be handled objectively, confidentially, and in a timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents. Manuscripts must not be shared with or discussed with others without prior authorization from the editor. -
Objectivity and Constructive Review
Reviews must be conducted objectively and fairly. Reviewers should provide clear, constructive, and evidence-based comments that can help authors improve the manuscript. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. -
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any substantial similarity between the manuscript and previously published work should be brought to the editor's attention. -
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest arising from personal, professional, financial, competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors, institutions, or organizations associated with the manuscript. Reviewers must inform the editor immediately if such a conflict becomes apparent. -
Use of Privileged Information
Information, data, methods, ideas, or findings obtained through peer review must be treated as privileged information and must not be used for personal or professional advantage. -
Promptness
Reviewers should respond to review invitations promptly and should accept assignments only when they have sufficient expertise and are able to complete the review within the agreed timeframe. If additional time is required, reviewers should inform the editor as soon as possible. -
Research Integrity Concerns
Reviewers should notify the editor if they identify potential ethical concerns, substantial plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, or other possible forms of research or publication misconduct. Reviewers should not independently investigate or contact the authors regarding suspected misconduct unless requested by the editor.
Allegations of Publication Misconduct
BEJTS takes allegations of publication misconduct seriously. Allegations may include, but are not limited to, plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate or redundant publication, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, and other forms of unethical research or publication practices.
When an allegation is received, the editor will assess the matter and may request clarification or supporting evidence from the relevant parties. Where appropriate, the journal may follow the relevant COPE guidelines and flowcharts when investigating suspected misconduct.
Depending on the findings, the journal may take appropriate action, including requesting corrections, rejecting a manuscript, issuing an expression of concern, retracting a published article, or taking other measures necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
Corrections and Retractions
BEJTS is committed to maintaining an accurate and reliable scholarly record. If a published article contains a significant error, the journal may publish a correction or other appropriate post-publication notice.
Articles may be retracted when there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, the publication resulted from serious misconduct, substantial plagiarism or duplicate publication is identified, or other circumstances substantially undermine the integrity of the published work.
Corrections and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original article whenever possible.
Ethical Oversight
BEJTS expects authors to comply with relevant ethical, legal, and professional requirements governing their research. Manuscripts involving human participants, animals, personal data, sensitive information, or potentially hazardous activities must comply with applicable ethical and regulatory standards.
The journal reserves the right to request evidence of ethical approval, informed consent, research permissions, or other relevant documentation when necessary.
Publisher's Responsibility
The publisher and journal management support the editors in maintaining academic integrity and publication quality. The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions based on commercial, political, or personal interests.
BEJTS is committed to preserving the integrity of the academic record, ensuring appropriate correction or retraction of published content when necessary, and supporting the journal's editors, authors, and reviewers in accordance with accepted publication-ethics principles.
