Plagiarism Policy

The Editorial Board of the Harpodon Borneo Journal recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and therefore has established the following policy, which outlines specific actions (penalties) upon the identification of plagiarism/similarities in articles submitted for publication by the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board will use the Turnitin originality checking software as a tool to detect text similarities in the manuscript and the final version of the article ready for publication. A maximum similarity index of 20% is permitted for submitted papers. If a similarity index exceeding 20% is identified, the article will be returned to the author for correction and resubmission.

Levels of Plagiarism

Minor: Short sections of another article are plagiarized without any significant data or ideas being taken from the other paper.
Action: A warning is issued to the authors, and they are requested to revise the text and properly cite the original article.

Intermediate: A significant portion of the paper is plagiarized without appropriate citation to the original paper.
Action: The submitted article is rejected, and the authors are prohibited from submitting further articles for one year.

Severe: A significant portion of the paper constitutes plagiarism involving the reproduction of results or original ideas presented in another publication.
Action: The paper is rejected, and the authors are prohibited from submitting further articles for five years.

It is understood that all authors are responsible for the content of their submitted paper, as they have all read and understood the Copyright Terms and License of the Harpodon Borneo Journal. If a penalty is imposed for plagiarism, all authors will be subject to the same penalty.
