Abstract

Family communication patterns are often associated with preschool children's personal abilities,
namely the child's ability to socialize. The communication patterns that occur within the family have
a strong impact on children's development, including their socialization abilities in the wider social
environment Effective family communication fosters better socialization abilities in children, while
poor communication can hinder their development in social contexts. This research aimed to
determine the relationship between family communication patterns and the socialization abilities of
preschool children at Si Jempol Kindergarten in Kampung 1 Skip, Tarakan City. This quantitative
research employed a cross-sectional design and utilized the Spearman Rank test. The sample
consisted of 64 respondents from Si Jem Kindergarten, selected through purposive sampling. The
findings indicated hat most family communication patterns were poor (76.6%), and the majority of
children exhibited poor socialization abilities (82.8%). It was concluded that there was a significant
relationship between family communication patterns and the socialization abilities of preschool
children, with a p-value of <0.001. It is recommended that future research include a larger sample
size or a complete population and employ quantitative methods with the Chi-Square test to further
explore the relationship.
