Screening and Plagiarism
Screening and Plagiarism Policy
1. Initial Manuscript Screening
Jurnal Borneo Humaniora is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality and quality of all manuscripts submitted for publication.
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening before being considered for peer review. The screening process evaluates the manuscript's relevance to the journal's focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, originality, completeness, citation practices, and adherence to publication ethics.
Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected before entering the peer-review process.
2. Plagiarism Detection Using Turnitin
All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Borneo Humaniora are screened for textual similarity using Turnitin.
Official Turnitin website: https://www.turnitin.id/
The maximum similarity score allowed by the journal is 25%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the extent and nature of the similarities identified.
The similarity score is used as an initial screening indicator and does not automatically establish whether plagiarism has occurred. The editorial team examines the similarity report, matched sources, citation practices, quotations, and context of the overlapping text before making an editorial decision.
Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts carefully before submission and to ensure that all sources are properly cited and acknowledged.
3. Forms of Plagiarism
Jurnal Borneo Humaniora does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct. Unacceptable practices include:
-
Direct plagiarism: Copying another person's words or ideas without appropriate quotation, citation, or acknowledgement.
-
Mosaic plagiarism: Combining material from one or more sources without adequate attribution.
-
Improper paraphrasing: Rewriting another person's ideas without acknowledging the original source.
-
Self-plagiarism and text recycling: Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate acknowledgement or disclosure.
-
Data and image plagiarism: Using another person's data, tables, figures, photographs, or other materials without appropriate attribution and permission where required.
-
Duplicate or redundant publication: Submitting or publishing substantially overlapping work without proper disclosure or authorization.
Plagiarism and other ethical violations may be identified regardless of the overall similarity score.
4. Editorial Decisions and Corrective Actions
After reviewing the similarity report, the editorial team may take one or more of the following actions:
-
Proceed with the manuscript to the next stage of editorial evaluation.
-
Request clarification or correction of citation and referencing problems.
-
Return the manuscript for revision when the identified overlap can be appropriately corrected.
-
Reject the manuscript if substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other serious ethical violations are identified.
-
Initiate further investigation when there is reasonable suspicion of research or publication misconduct.
The editorial decision will consider the extent, location, and significance of the overlap, the adequacy of attribution, and the originality of the manuscript's scholarly contribution.
5. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Borneo Humaniora are responsible for ensuring that:
-
Their manuscripts represent original scholarly work.
-
All sources, ideas, data, and materials taken from other works are properly cited.
