Journal Archiving
Journal Archiving Policy
1. Policy Statement
Jurnal Borneo Humaniora is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and supporting long-term access to its articles. The journal recognizes the importance of digital preservation in maintaining the integrity, availability, and continuity of the scholarly record.
The journal's archiving policy is intended to protect published articles against data loss, technical failures, and disruptions to the journal's website or publishing platform.
2. LOCKSS Digital Preservation System
Jurnal Borneo Humaniora utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system as its stated digital archiving mechanism. LOCKSS supports distributed preservation by enabling participating libraries to collect and maintain archival copies of journal content for preservation and restoration purposes.
Through this approach, the journal supports the long-term preservation of its published articles and the possibility of restoring content if the original online source becomes unavailable or data are lost.
The availability of distributed archival copies depends on the journal's technical configuration and participation in the relevant LOCKSS preservation network.
3. Digital Content Preservation
The journal seeks to preserve its published content, including:
-
Final published articles and their associated files.
-
Journal issues and publication records.
-
Article metadata, including titles, author names, abstracts, keywords, and bibliographic information.
-
Corrections, retractions, and other editorial notices associated with published articles.
The journal aims to maintain the accuracy and integrity of its archived content. Where technical migration or file-format conversion is necessary, appropriate measures should be taken to preserve the content and meaning of the original publication.
4. Backup and Data Recovery
The journal recognizes the importance of maintaining reliable copies of its electronic publication records. Appropriate backup and recovery procedures should be implemented in coordination with the journal's publisher and technical administrators.
These procedures should cover the journal database, article files, publication metadata, and other essential records needed to restore the journal's operations following technical failure or data loss.
Backup frequency, storage locations, access controls, and recovery arrangements are subject to the technical and institutional facilities available to the journal.
5. Continued Access to Published Articles
Jurnal Borneo Humaniora aims to maintain access to its published articles through its official journal website and applicable preservation arrangements.
If the journal changes its publishing platform, website address, or technical infrastructure, reasonable efforts should be made to preserve publication records and maintain links to previously published articles.
If the journal's website becomes temporarily unavailable, the editorial team and publisher should take appropriate steps to restore access. Where preserved copies are available through an applicable archiving service, restoration will be subject to the procedures and conditions of that service.
6. Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit eligible versions of their articles in institutional repositories, subject-based repositories, or personal academic websites, subject to the journal's copyright notice and the licence applicable to the article.
Repository deposits should include the complete bibliographic citation, the article's DOI or permanent URL where available, and a link to the official publication record. Authors must comply with the applicable copyright and licensing terms when sharing published material.
7. Preservation Services and Verification
LOCKSS is identified in the journal's existing archiving policy. The journal's editorial team and technical administrators should periodically verify the relevant OJS archiving settings, publisher manifest, and preservation status.
Other preservation services, including the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and CLOCKSS, may be considered where appropriate. The journal will identify these services as active preservation arrangements only after participation, configuration, or deposit status has been verified.
8. Responsibility and Policy Review
The publisher, editorial team, and technical administrators share responsibility for supporting the preservation and continued accessibility of the journal's published content within their respective roles.
This policy may be reviewed periodically to reflect changes in digital preservation practices, publishing technology, institutional arrangements, and applicable scholarly publishing standards.
For questions regarding journal archiving or access to published articles, readers and authors may contact the editorial office through the official Jurnal Borneo Humaniora website.
