A Review of Operations Management in Waste Management in Bali: A Systematic Literature Review

From a management perspective, waste management is not only related to environmental aspects but also includes operational efficiency and resource management as well as decision making in the provision of public services. The waste problem on the island continues to increase due to population growth and tourism visits as well as high community usage patterns. The research uses a qualitative approach with the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Information on the data was obtained from national and international scientific articles as well as official reports from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) published in 2020–2025 (SIPSN, 2023). The analysis was carried out using thematic analysis techniques to determine the relationship between the waste sorting system and the practice of burning waste and health risks among the community. The research results show that an effective waste sorting system can increase waste management efficiency and reduce the practice of open waste burning. However, its implementation still faces various challenges such as a lack of public awareness, limited facilities and an uneven waste transportation system. The practice of burning waste has been proven to increase the risk of health problems and respiratory diseases due to exposure to air pollution. This research concludes that strengthening policies for providing supporting facilities and public education is needed to increase the effectiveness of sustainable waste management
