Publication Ethics

To maintain the quality of manuscripts and prevent publishing violations, the editorial board of Jurnal Borneo Saintek establishes the journal's scientific publication ethics. These ethics are based on the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Regulation No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, which outlines the provisions of scientific publication ethics.

The following Publication Ethics document describes the ethical standards for all parties involved in the publication process and applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and journal managers.

All parties involved must uphold ethical values in publication, namely:

  • Neutrality: free from conflicts of interest in managing publications;

  • Justice: granting authorship rights to those entitled as authors; and

  • Honesty: free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in publications.

Journal Manager/Publisher of Jurnal Borneo Saintek

  • The journal publisher must prepare personnel and other journal facilities, including funding sources for the sustainability of journal publishing, licensing, and other legal aspects, as well as building networks for collaboration and marketing.

  • The journal publisher must create journal management guidelines, review policies, and communicate them to authors, the editorial board, reviewers, and readers.

  • The journal publisher is responsible for publishing manuscripts after going through the editing, review, and layout processes in accordance with the rules of scientific journal publishing and publishing the journal regularly.

  • To create a comfortable working atmosphere, the publisher is responsible for guaranteeing academic freedom for editors and reviewers in carrying out their respective duties.

  • The journal manager must ensure and protect intellectual property rights (copyright).

  • The journal manager must publish and promote the published works to the public, ensuring the usefulness of the manuscripts.

  • Respect confidentiality for contributors, authors, editors, and reviewers.

  • Implement norms and provisions regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright.

Editorial Code of Ethics

  • Editors ensure the review process is thorough, transparent, objective, fair, and wise, which forms the basis for deciding whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected.

  • Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are eligible for publication through editorial board meetings, referring to applicable legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, duplication, data fabrication, data falsification, and plagiarism.

  • In the review and acceptance process of manuscripts, the editorial team applies the principle of equal treatment when making decisions to publish manuscripts without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political ideology of the authors.

  • Editors and the editorial team will not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts without the author’s permission.

  • Unpublished manuscripts will not be used by editors for their own interests and will be returned directly to the authors.

  • Address the needs of readers and authors.

  • Encourage authors to improve their manuscripts until they are suitable for publication.

  • Continuously strive to improve the quality of publications.

  • Implement processes to ensure the quality of published works.

  • Prioritize objectivity in freedom of expression.

  • Provide corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.

  • Be responsible for the style and format of written works, while the content and statements in the works are the responsibility of the authors.

  • Be open to new ideas or opposing views from others.

Reviewer Code of Ethics

  • Reviewers conduct honest, objective, unbiased, and independent reviews, upholding scientific principles and analysis, and focusing solely on the truth.

  • Reviewers assist editors in determining which works are worthy of publication and help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.

  • Reviewers critically review the content of a manuscript according to their expertise, remain open to new ideas, and uphold confidentiality principles.

  • Reviewers are committed to improving the quality of manuscripts.

  • Conduct manuscript reviews as assigned by Jurnal Borneo Saintek editors and provide feedback for consideration in determining a manuscript’s eligibility for publication based on:

    • Scientific principles

    • Established deadlines

    • Jurnal Borneo Saintek's writing guidelines

  • Re-evaluate revised manuscripts according to set standards.

  • Encourage authors to make improvements by providing constructive criticism, suggestions, input, and recommendations.

  • Protect author privacy by not disclosing review results.

  • Reviewers must not review works in which they have a direct or indirect involvement.

  • Ensure the truth, novelty, and originality of manuscripts.

  • Prioritize the benefits of manuscripts for scientific, technological, and innovation development.

  • Understand the impact of writing on scientific progress.

  • Be free from interventions based on religion, politics, nationality, gender, commercial interests, and relationships that result in biased recommendations.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of findings in manuscripts.

  • Avoid personal criticism of authors.

  • Avoid communication with authors or research sponsors.

  • Do not use reviewed manuscripts for personal or third-party interests.

  • Do not disseminate manuscripts under review.

Author Code of Ethics

  • Authors must present the results of their thoughts or research clearly, honestly, and without duplication, data fabrication, data falsification, or plagiarism.

  • Authors must provide information about their research processes and results to the editors honestly, clearly, and comprehensively, while keeping their research data safe and secure.

  • Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original, written by themselves, sourced from their own ideas, and not plagiarized from others' works or ideas.

  • Authors must confirm that submitted manuscripts have not been sent to or submitted for publication elsewhere.

  • Authors must promptly inform editors if errors are found in their manuscripts, whether during the review process or after editing. These errors may include name writing, affiliation/institution, citations, and other issues that could affect the manuscript’s meaning and substance. Authors must propose corrections.

  • Authors must understand the above scientific publication ethics to avoid conflicts of interest with others, ensuring their manuscripts can be processed smoothly and safely.

  • Authors are responsible for responding to comments and feedback on their manuscripts.

  • Authors must properly cite others’ opinions and works.

  • Authors must write manuscripts ethically, honestly, and responsibly according to applicable scientific writing regulations.

  • Authors agree to allow their manuscripts to be edited during the review and layout processes without altering the substance or main ideas of their writing.
