ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS VIII

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical problem-solving abilities of junior high school students in the matter of number patterns. The research method used was descriptive qualitative research, determining the subject using a purposive sampling technique, three students were used as subjects according to their problem-solving abilities, namely the high, medium and low categories. Data collection was obtained from documentation, tests and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical problem-solving abilities of Tarakan 10 Public Middle School students fall into three categories, as follows: (1) The high category is already able to fulfill problem-solving indicators but there are still deficiencies in providing final conclusions; (2) The medium category can only fulfill some indicators of problem solving, where students are able to understand problems, develop strategies, and check results; (3) The low category cannot fulfill all problem solving indicators. Based on the results of the research and discussion, it can be concluded that students' mathematical problem-solving abilities indicate that several indicators of problem-solving that have been tested on students have not been fulfilled.
